Kinesiotaping

What is Kinesiotaping®?

Kinesiotaping® method utilizes an elastic form of tape that does not restrict motion. The Kinesiotaping® method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support, or to prevent over-contraction. Kinesiotaping® affects the activation of the neurological system, the body's information processor and the circulatory system. Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body, but they also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows and body temperature. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms. Thus this form of taping is utilized for increasing lymphatic drainage, reducing edema/swelling, facilitating muscular contraction, and to manage pain.

How can Kinesiotaping® help me?

  • Improve contraction of a weakened muscle
  • Reduce muscle fatigue and spasm
  • Reduce over-stretching and over-contraction of muscles
  • Re-educate muscles through sensory feedback
  • Lessen edema (swelling) through aiding the lymphatic system
  • Minimize post-traumatic or post-surgical bruising through improved circulation
  • Help mobilize scar tissue by enhancing glide between tissue layers
  • Help correct joint mechanics through aiding muscle function around the joint
  • Relieve pain by activating the natural analgesic system in our skin receptors

The Edge

I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank you and your staff for their dedication and professionalism. Six months ago I started experiencing chronic pain in my left knee and calf. After numerous tests my family doctor was not sure as to what was causing this ongoing problem. Through a friend, I was referred to you. The sports medicine Doctor diagnosed my problem as a torn meniscus with some degeneration of the cartlilage in my knee. The MRI that the Doctor arranged, in turn supported this. He suggested that physiotherapy would help before we entertained anything more invasive. My physiotherapist worked with me for several months and today I am pain free. Once again I say "Thank You". I believe my progress and its success is due entirely to the staff at Toronto SEMI.
